- A virtual investor summit ushering in Sri Lanka’s next phase of growth and economic recovery
‘Restart Sri Lanka’, a three-day virtual conference powered by CAL, will take place from September 5-7, 2023, to engage participants in an open dialogue on unlocking investment opportunities in Sri Lanka in a post-debt restructuring landscape.
The highly-anticipated conference brings together an esteemed line-up of speakers, key policymakers, thought leaders and industry experts and features a series of compelling keynote speeches and panel discussions that promise to provide insightful perspectives on the country’s journey towards economic resurgence.
Moreover, the conference will connect global and local funds and investors with C-suite executives of 10 of Sri Lanka’s leading listed companies to discuss business trajectory and investment opportunities.

Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe will deliver the keynote on day one of the conference on ‘Charting Sri Lanka’s Economic Recovery’. This will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘Outlook and Challenges for a Post-Debt Restructuring Economy’, with former State Bank of Pakistan Governor and Alvarez & Marsal Managing Director and Global Head of Sovereign Advisory Services Dr. Reza Baqir and former Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, where the panellists will delve into the opportunities and obstacles that lie ahead as Sri Lanka navigates the economic landscape, following the pivotal debt restructuring process.
Day two of the conference will see Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe delivering a keynote on ‘Aligning Sri Lanka’s Fiscal and Policy Framework to Unlock Investment Potential’, exploring strategies to harmonise fiscal policies and regulatory frameworks to create an attractive environment for both domestic and international investments.
A panel discussion on ‘Asset Allocation in a Post-Crisis Landscape’, to provide the much-needed insight into optimal asset allocation strategies in the aftermath of economic challenges, is set to follow, with CAL Group Chief Operating Officer Kanishke Mannakkara, FIM Partners UK Ltd Head of Macro Strategy Charlie Robertson, the economist renowned globally for his acclaimed book ‘The Time-Travelling Economist’ and Santa Lucia Asset Management CEO Florian Weidinger.
The conference will conclude on day three with a packed schedule; the keynote on ‘Operationalising State-Owned Enterprise Reforms’ and the crucial role it plays in economic revitalisation will be delivered by veteran Chartered Accountant, Founding CEO of Lion Brewery and current Chairman of the Ceylon Tobacco Company Suresh Shah, who currently heads Sri Lanka’s State-Owned Enterprise Restructuring Unit.
The event will conclude with an onsite event beginning with CAL Chief Strategist Udeeshan Jonas giving insight into ‘Macro Economic Outlook for Sri Lanka’. The final panel discussion on ‘Shifting Strategies from Resilience to Recovery’ is set to feature industry trailblazers, including Hemas Holdings Managing Director and CEO Kasturi Chellarajah Wilson, Commercial Bank Managing Director and CEO Sanath Manatunge and Brandix Managing Director Hasitha Premaratne.
This virtual conference will be held via Zoom, with the keynote speeches and company meetings provided exclusively to CAL clients and invitees, while the panel discussions will be held as public sessions accessible to all attendees.
