The Cabinet nod has been granted to setup a Rapid Service Unit as a one-stop unit at the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to expedite development projects in urban areas.
Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga on Monday sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to setup the Rapid Service Unit.
The Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Transport and Highways and Minister of Mass Media Bandula Gunawardana noted that the New Unit would improve the current development application processing system.

Owing to excessive documentation and multiple approvals at multiple locations, he acknowledged that investors sometime face undue delays in securing approvals for projects in urban areas.
Meanwhile, Ranatunga also secured the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to provide freehold deeds to the beneficiaries of 24-storey Oval View Residencies housing project in Borella in accordance with the provisions of the Urban Development Authority Act No. 41 of 1978.
The project which consists of 608 housing units built for government employees where five commercial units have been completed, was handed over to the beneficiaries in 2020.
