Chinese energy firms briefed about power and energy sector opportunities

Power and Energy Ministry yesterday presented the investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka’s power and energy sector to energy sector companies of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka.
This was done on the request of the Chinese embassy in Colombo, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.


While presenting the opportunities, the government discussed its policies on renewable energy, power sector reforms, oil and gas exploration, green hydrogen and refinery operations.


Officials of the Chinese embassy, Ministry of Power and Energy, Ceylon Electricity Board, Lanka Electricity Company, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Petroleum Development Authority of Sri Lanka, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited participated in the meeting.
Sri Lanka plans to meet 70 percent of its electricity requirement through renewable energy by 2030.
