The decision to bring about changes in the education sector, specifically trimming of the timeframe to complete A-levels from 45 months to 32 months, is to ensure Sri Lanka has the necessary talent ready to take up opportunities at the upcoming financial center at the Colombo Port City (CPC), Justice Minister Ali Sabry said.
“That means by 18, a child should go to university. All these changes is to be compatible with the opportunities which are coming on our way,” Sabry told the National Unity Forum, which discussed the impact of CPC on Sri Lanka’s future.
Similarly, the decision to reduce the number of Art courses offered in universities and include “good ethically sound job oriented courses,” is also taken to allow local graduates to capitalize on the opportunities offered by the mega development project, he said.
