The Cabinet nod has been granted to extend the Embarkation Levy exemption for Jaffna International Airport by six months.
Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to extend the valid period for 50 percent exemption granted on the Embarkation Levy at Jaffna International Airport by six months in order to continue to issue passengers with air tickets at an affordable rate.
Extension of Embarkation Levy exemption for Jaffna International Airport first came into effect from December last year in order to boost traffic to the newly opened airport.
Cabinet Spokesperson Bandula Gunawardana noted that the benefits due to increased air traffic to the airport far outweigh the loss of revenue from the levy.
