The resorts that come under the purview of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) will receive a facelift to improve their status.
The Tourism Ministry announced yesterday that a decision has been taken to “modernise” the resorts that come under the SLTDA, so that they can be attractive accommodation options for local and foreign tourists.
Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday said that the government intends to transform the facilities into “lucrative resorts”.
The resorts owned by the SLTDA are located in Kataragama, Bandarawela, Nuwara Eliya and Anuradhapura. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the resorts were not in operation until recently, although the renovations are still taking place. In an effort to make the process of booking easier, the SLTDA recently made available the reservation process online as well.

Meanwhile, Ranatunga also shared that “special attention” is directed towards the quality and standard of service of the 37 rest houses, which have been leased out to the private sector.
“A special team to inspect the quality and service quality of the rest houses,” Ranatunga said.
