Glomark, a leading supermarket chain, has introduced its latest initiative GLO-E, a web AR-based digital assistant that aims to educate customers on choosing the ideal fresh produce.
In line with the global issue of food wastage, GLO-E is a unique solution that enables customers to find the perfect product while reducing food waste both in-store and at home.
Customers can access GLO-E by scanning a QR code placed next to the product they want to purchase. Customers can then interact with GLO-E on their mobile phones, which will provide them with detailed information about the product, including its benefits and ideal selection.

Commenting on GLO-E, Glomark Chief Marketing Officer Gayan Caldera said, “Empowering customers with knowledge through innovative solutions like GLO-E not only promotes awareness in selecting the freshest produce but also helps in reducing food waste, thereby fostering a sustainable future for generations to come. By providing customers with real-time information on the freshness of the produce, GLO-E empowers them to make informed decisions that benefit their health and wellbeing.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), approximately one-third of all food produced globally is wasted each year. This not only has significant economic and environmental costs but it also perpetuates the problem of food insecurity in many parts of the world. By providing easily accessible services for awareness related to best practices in fresh produce selection and picking, Glomark aims to educate people while reducing food wastage, which is the need of the hour.”
