State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the first of a series of programmes organised at the district level to appreciate taxpayers will be started in Colombo on December 23.
He pointed out that in a situation where new taxes have been introduced and existing tax rates been changed to overcome the ongoing economic crisis, the most important party is not the policy makers but the taxpayers.
The minister added that it is the government’s responsibility to prepare tax policies as well as engage in constant dialogue about them with taxpayers.
“We are ready to engage in regular dialogue with the introduction of new taxes. As a government, we are ready to be flexible knowing what needs to be changed. This is really an interactive discussion. The expectation is to move forward by exchanging information and making necessary changes,” said the minister.This series of programmes starting from Colombo on the 23rd will be held covering all 25 districts of the island and they are jointly organised by the Finance Ministry and the Inland Revenue Department.
