Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siambalapitiya said the necessary arrangements would be made to recruit the graduates who are currently engaged in public service for the vacancies in the Sri Lanka Customs Department, Inland Revenue Department and Excise Department.

Dr. Siambalapitiya stated that these recruitments would be carried out through a competitive examination conducted with the approval of the Cabinet and Public Service Commission, so that the service regulations of the relevant departments are not violated.
There are currently 773 vacancies in the Sri Lanka Customs Department and 434 vacancies in the Inland Revenue Department.

There are also 331 vacancies in the Excise Department.
With the reduction of the retirement age from 65 to 60, another group of highly experienced officers in the three relevant departments are expected to retire by December 31, 2022.
Dr. Siambalapitiya pointed out that in view of the existing situation, no new recruitments would be made to the public service and it is the hope of the government to provide that opportunity for talented graduates who are currently working in the public service.
