International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (ICC Sri Lanka) is set to host its third annual Arbitration Conference on August 3rd, at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo.
The ICC Sri Lanka is a catalyst for business growth and global connectivity in Sri Lanka and part of the global ICC network, which is an institutional representative of 45 million companies in more than 170 countries, making it easier for businesses to trade internationally. The conference is part of a series of activities taken by ICC Sri Lanka aimed at promoting ease of trade.

Speaking about the event, ICC Sri Lanka Chairman Anthony Shanil Fernando said, “We are proud to host the third Arbitration Conference and are inviting all legal professionals, arbitrators, and dispute-resolution enthusiasts to the event. This event is the ideal platform for engineers, contractors, procurement, shipping, property, leasing, and banking professionals to understand arbitration.

Arbitration is vital during times of economic and social upheaval due to the after-effects of the economic downturn and the pandemic to facilitate the ease of doing business in Sri Lanka. We have an eminent group of speakers and panellists attending the event and we hope to discuss local and international trends in Arbitration.  The event will be a source of knowledge to SMEs, software development companies and other such organisations that do trade both locally and internationally. ICC Sri Lanka is in the process of planning to set up the Colombo International Arbitration Facilitator Centre, a state-of-the-art Arbitration Centre similar to the Singapore Arbitration Centre. This facility will serve all international clients who require ICC arbitration services.”

In 2023, the ICC International Court of Arbitration is celebrating 100 years of being the world’s leading arbitral institution. First published by ICC in 1936, Incoterms rules are a set of eleven three-letter trade terms, reflecting business-to-business practice in contracts for the sale and purchase of goods. The International Court of Arbitration ensures the proper application of the ICC Rules and assists parties and arbitrators in overcoming procedural hurdles. John Denton AO, Secretary General, of the International Chamber of Commerce and Claudia Salomon the President, of the ICC Court of Arbitration will address the gathering online on August 3rd.
