Import restrictions on 300 products to be lifted by this weekend

The import restrictions on 300 more products would be lifted by this weekend, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said yesterday.

On August 23, the government slapped import restrictions on 1,465 items, in a bid to save foreign exchange.

However, after that, these restrictions were relaxed on certain products at various occasions, amid lobbying by various industry groups, business chambers and the Board of Investment.

According to Siyambalapitiya, the list of restricted items has now come down to 1,216 products.
