Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers to be established through Act of Parliament

Cabinet approval has been granted to endorse a private bill submitted by an Opposition lawmaker to establish the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Sri Lanka through an Act of Parliament in order to perform its activities more formally and effectively.

Opposition lawmaker Buddhika Pathirana, has submitted a private bill to establish the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Sri Lanka which was founded in 1987 under the Ceylon Shipping Corporation with the patronage of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers of England through an Act of Parliament.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Civil Aviation Nimal SIripala de Silva to submit a report to parliament recommending the bill in accordance with the provisions of Standing Orders 52(6) of parliament.

The Attorney General’s clearance has already been received for the bill prepared. 
The institute is comprised of Fellow Members and Associate Members, and the main objective of it is to confirm and enhance the professional competence of shipbrokers. 
Further, it also provides opportunities to promote professional training skills of the members in the field through educational programmes, conferences and workshops.
