Institute of Chemistry Ceylon launches Action Programme for 2023

The inauguration ceremony of the launching of the Action Programme (2023) of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon for Contributing to Economic Development through Professional Development of Chemists and Quality Improvement in the Chemical Industry, in line with the International Year of Basic Sciences, will be held today.
This grand event of professionals will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Water’s Edge Hotel, Battaramulla. Education Minister Susil Premajayantha will grace the event as the chief guest and Sri Lanka National Council for UNESCO Secretary General Professor Sirimali Fernando will be the guest of honour.


The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC), incorporated by Act of Parliament No.15 of 1972, is the professional body of chemists in Sri Lanka and for the general advancement of chemical science and the practice of chemistry in all its branches. It serves as the apex body to offer training programmes for the professional development of chemists and to recognise eminent chemists, by electing them as members/fellows and chartered chemists.
In view of the above, IChemC has scheduled the following programmes commencing from the year 2023, in order to improve capacity and quality of chemists, enabling them to make a better contribution to the economic development of the country through providing specialised services to industries in which chemical sciences are involved. The related industries will definitely be benefited through these scheduled activities. 


1. Inauguration of Secretariat for Professional Practice of Chemistry
2. Launching Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
3. Virtual ChemEX 2023 - educational, industrial exhibition and trade fair
(Launching activities under the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD 2022) proclaimed by the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly)
4. Introduction of proposed postgraduate degrees in chemical science  
5. Conducting Virtual ChemEX 2023 educational- industrial exhibition and trade fair

 
The institute has planned to conduct the inauguration ceremony for launching the above activities with the participation of eminent chemists, university academics in chemistry and related fields, industrial representatives as well as the representatives of relevant ministries, departments, ITI, SLSI, other scientific organisations and UNESCO, FAO/UN and WHO.
