LCC to unveil courses with focus on foreign job market

Creating a revolution in the university landscape in Sri Lanka, Leeds Colombo Campus (LCC) with many firsts and

novel courses, is set to unveil new specialised courses in 2024, targeting foreign employment opportunities.
In the startup stage Leeds Colombo Campus will introduce new one-year diploma courses in teacher training for English medium teachers which will have international recognition. 


The  diploma will cover teaching technology, classroom management and first aid methodology, child psychology, 21st century early childhood education and digital technology in education for primary and secondary teachers. The basic entry level for these diplomas is GCE -Advanced Level. School and university leavers too could join the course.


In addition, there will be English, Caregivers and Fashion Design & Management and diploma in strength and conditioning in sports courses with focus in foreign jobs. The English courses will target the corporate sector and for those going overseas under unskilled labour category and need to have knowledge of basic practical English. They will be offered a 100-hour, one-month special training course in basic English. The Corporate sector training course will include leadership training and communication skills.


The Caregiver course will be accredited with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC). The Fashion Design & Management Course will be offered as per the requirements of a major retail chain company in Sri Lanka.
With the UK-based qualification offered by Leeds Colombo Campus , teachers can go for overseas employment without having to sit for any other examinations held in foreign countries, Jaliya Weliwatta, CEO,  Director Leeds Colombo Campus said. 


He said they plan to collaborate with a few universities in the UK
and Australia.
Weliwatta said the campus will be situated at Duplication Road with state-of-the-art facilities including smart classes and NVQ certification and will consist of 4 faculties, Teacher Training, English, Caregiver and Fashion &
Management Faculty. 


Weliwatta is a BSC  graduate from Delhi University and completed the MBA from the Open University Malaysia.He started his career in the Gulf as a marketing executive in 2003. He has international and national level experience in the last 20 years. During the last 8 years he has served as a consultant for many local and international companies.At present, he is also the Sri Lanka Director of China legal Bureau
in Singapore.
Weliwatta added that Leeds Colombo Campus has a team of highly acclaimed professors and educationists to offer the highest quality courses to the public.
