Laugfs Power initiates 10MW solar plant project in H’tota

Laugfs Power PLC has kicked off efforts to build a 10MW ground mount solar power plant in Hambantota.
The company has called for commercial proposals from national and international engineering construction firms for the engineering, procurement and construction of the power plant.
The proposed project is expected to generate 22.9 GWh annually, according to the Laugfs Power.


The progress of the project’s power purchase agreement with Ceylon Electricity Board is yet to be announced. 
The 10MW power plant marks the third implementation of a solar plant project by Laugfs Power, a fully owned subsidiary of Laugfs Gas PLC.
Bidders are required to cover a scope of work including the design of a solar power plant with all accessory functions and the procurement of all equipment necessary 
for construction.


Additionally, the scope includes ground preparation, associated civil work, complete installation and thorough testing and commissioning, as per the notice.
Proposals are to be submitted by August 31, 2024. Tender documents of the project are available through email until June 23, according to the notice.


The company is credited for commissioning the country’s largest solar power plant, a 20MW facility in Hambantota in 2017. Constructed using an investment of Rs. 5 billion, the power plant contributes 38 GWh to Sri Lanka’s national grid, annually. An additional 2 MW is generated through a solar project operating in Embilipitiya.
Furthermore, the rooftop solar panels installed by the company are estimated to generate a total capacity of 567 KW.


The company has received preliminary approval from the State Ministry of Solar, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Project Development to initiate a 50 MW wind power project in the Mannar District.
Located in  Manthai West, Mannar the project is expected to generate 131.4 
GWh annually.
