Lufthansa Technik AG, a subsidiary of Germany’s Lufthansa Group, has secured a contract to repair three CFM Leap-1A category aircraft of SriLankan Airlines.
Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva on Monday sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to award the contract to Lufthansa Technik based on the recommendation of the Cabinet-appointed Standing Procurement Committee.
According to the Government Information Department, three bids had been received for the tender after the national carrier called for bids under limited international competitive bidding system from qualified suppliers for maintenance services for 03 CFM Leap-1A
category aircraft.
The three aircraft were grounded since last February due to an engine shortage in the global market.
According to media reports, several other aircraft also remain grounded representing half of SriLankan Airlines’ narrow body fleet. However, the airline has denied reports on shortage of funds to maintain and repair these aircraft.
