The parliamentary committee appointed to provide recommendations to legalise cannabis as an export product met for the first time yesterday.
Minister of Justice Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, Minister of Plantation Ramesh Pathirana, Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella, State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage, State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Sisira Jayakody, President Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs Prof. Ashu Marasinghe, Secretary of Defence Ministry General Kamal Gunaratne, Secretary of Health Ministry S. J. S. Chandragupta, Coordinating Secretary of State Tourism Ministry Dr. Arosha Fernando and the senior officers from the Health Ministry, Finance Ministry and the Board Of Investment (BOI) were in attendance.
The committee has been appointed under the direction of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The committee is expected to meet up fortnightly to make the necessary recommendations to parliament.
