The event, which was held at Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel, was attended by People’s Bank Chairman Sujeewa Rajapakse and CEO/GM Clive Fonseka and key members of the Essential Food Commodities Imports and Trade Association, which has over 300 registered members.
The Corporate Banking Department of People’s Bank organised this evening to bolster business growth and strengthen banking relationships while promoting the use of the Indian rupee (INR) currency.
People’s Bank has been at the forefront of facilitating the importation of crucial commodities during even the most challenging situations the country had to undergo and this was achieved by providing maximum support to the business community of Pettah Bazzar.
Speaking at the event Rajapakse said, “People’s Bank has always put the nation’s interests first and this was evident by the pivotal role it played during the most challenging of times by facilitating key imports such as coal, oil, medicine and food items for the betterment of the country. We are not just about numbers and transactions because we stay firmly committed to uplifting the people, community and shared vision of prosperity.”
Addressing the gathering Fonseka stated, “People’s Bank’s vision for Pettah Bazzar extends beyond mere transactions; it is a vision for prosperity. With our flexible approach and extensive expertise in foreign trade-related banking services, businesses in Pettah can simplify their international trade, potentially unlocking new opportunities and partnerships. The exploration of other profitable avenues, including cash collections, aims to fortify the financial ecosystem in Pettah Bazzar and ensure sustained growth.”
