Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, over the weekend engaged in discussions with the Managing Director of India’s Surana Solar Company to explore the potential for domestic production of solar panels required for renewable power generation within the country.

Managing Director of Surana Solar Company of India Narendra Surana recently visited Sri Lanka and held discussions with President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Following the discussion with the President, Surana on Saturday held a preliminary discussion with the Minister Wijesekera at the Ministry on investing in renewable energy projects in Sri Lanka.

At the meeting the two parties discussed the possibility of setting up a manufacturing facility to produce solar panels in Sri Lanka.
Further discussions will take place to identify a suitable location to establish the manufacturing facility and possible locations for renewable energy development, Wijesekara said.
