President to chair 12-member Cabinet Sub-Committee on economic growth and revival

The Cabinet has cleared the path to establish a 12-member Cabinet Sub-Committee on economic growth and revival chaired by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Taking into account the need for measures to revive and develop the country’s economy in the face of current economic crisis, the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the 12-member Cabinet Sub-Committee comprising key Ministers and State officials, according to Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Transport and Highways and Minister of Mass Media, Bandula Gunawardane.


Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Ports Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Transport and Highways and Minister of Mass Media Bandula Gunawardane, Minister of Plantation Industries and Minister of Industries Ramesh Pathirana and Minister of Foreign Affairs M .U. M. Ali Sabry have been named as the members of the Committee.


In addition, Gunawardane noted that the Central Bank Governor, Treasury Secretary, Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Prime Minister and Economic Advisor to the President have also been named as members. In the backdrop of the current economic crisis, he stressed that immediate decisions should be taken to facilitate economic growth and recovery as a key priority. In this regard, the Cabinet Sub-Committee is expected to render the strategic guidance required for national economic management activities. The initial approval for the establishment of the Cabinet Sub-Committee was given last month.
