The Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council successfully conducted its 53rd Annual General Meeting at The Kingsbury Hotel recently and Sri Lanka Tea Board Chairman Niraj De Mel graced the occasion as the distinguished chief guest.
During the meeting, MAS Holdings Director Logistics Sean Van Dort was elected as Chairman, while Lalan Rubbers (Pvt.) Ltd General Manager Shipping and Customer Service Trisherman Frink and Flintech Transducers (Pvt.) Ltd Managing Director Tyronne Weckasinghe were appointed as First Vice Chairman and Second Vice Chairman, respectively. Martin Bauer Hayleys (Private) Limited Head of Logistics Russell Juriansz will serve the committee as the Immediate Past Chairman.
The Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council has throughout a rich history of over 50 years effectively represented the interests of the shipping industry in Sri Lanka. Established in 1966 as the first national Shippers’ Council, it now comprises 17 product member associations and over 50 individual members representing almost all industries engaged in international trade, making it one of the most vibrant industry councils in the country.
Product associations of the Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council are the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Ceylon Coir Fiber Exporters Association, Colombo Rubber Traders’ Association, Exporters’ Association of Sri Lanka, Free Trade Zone Manufacturers Association, Hub Operators Association of Sri Lanka, Import Section of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Joint Apparel Association Forum, Lanka Fruit and Vegetable Producers, Processors and Exporters Association, Logistics Providers Association Sri Lanka, National Chamber of Commerce, National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association, Sri Lanka Freight Forwarders Association, Sri Lanka Association of Air Express Companies, Tea Exporters Association of Sri Lanka and Ceylon National Chamber of Industries.
