The tourism stakeholders will be able to make more informed decisions going forward, as efforts are underway to launch a dashboard that will provide timely statistics on performance.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) this week shared that a platform is being developed to have the sector-relevant data updated on a daily basis, so that the industry can make data-driven decision-making.

SLTDA Chairman Priantha Fernando pointed out that data enrichment is an area that needs improved focus, in the industry.
“This is an area where I think we are falling back. Our decisions are not made on research or accurate data. At present, we are prepared to share the data you require and our research department stands ready to help on request,” said Fernando this week, while highlighting the performance of the SLTDA to the industry stakeholders and journalists.

He shared that the SLTDA also compiles international data in areas that are of relevance to the local context. It has a wealth of information, such as details of high-performing source markets and segments, Fernando added.

“I urge the private sector to make use of the data and information that we have in the decision-making process.
Doing so will ensure that the investments already made or those that are underway will yield the results expected, instead of going out and spending without knowing the market or segment,” said Fernando.
