Second reading of EPF Amendment Bill on Thursday

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Amendment Bill will be presented in Parliament for the second reading on 7 October as decided by the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Labour yesterday.

The amendment will be presented to Parliament to pave the way to make the possible changes to allow Sri Lankan workers working in India to receive contributions made to the Social Security Fund before the age of 58.

At present, Sri Lankans employed in India are required by law to contribute to the Indian Social Security Fund, but can only receive the contribution when they turn 58 years.

In addition to the bill amendment, an order to Parliament will also be presented under the Employees Provident Fund Act to use modern technology to register employees for the Employees Provident Fund.
