Selected investors secure land parcels in 15 regional industrial estates

The Cabinet of Ministers has cleared a proposal to grant land parcels to selected investors in 15 industrial estates for investment projects worth Rs.4.5 billion under the Regional Industrial Estate Programme.
Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa this week sought the approval of the Cabinet to allocate the relevant investors land portions on 35-year long-term lease basis based on recommendations of relevant selection committees.
The selected investors are expected to invest Rs. 4, 523.34 million and to generate 2, 477 direct employment opportunities. Regional Industrial Estate Programme has been implemented with the objective of developing industries at regional level.
The Government Information Department noted that selection process of appropriate investors for the programme was conducted after a thorough evaluation of project proposals by the Regional Industrial  Services Committee established under the Industrial Promotion Act No. 46 of 1990 and the Project Evaluation Committee maintained under the Ministry of Industries.
