Sri Lanka yesterday entered into an agreement with the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) to develop the country’s first floating solar development project.
The project, which will be carried out through a US $ 5.2 million KIAT grant, will develop two 1MW plants, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.
The floating solar plants will be built in Chandrika Wewa (Reservoir) in the Ratnapura district and Kiri-ibban Wewa in the Moneragala district.
The plants will be developed by Korean engineering companies.
The project is set to be completed by December 2024.
The project received the Cabinet approval in March this year.
