Sri Lanka is set to implement a strategic communication programme to manage and boost the country’s image.
Cabinet of Ministers this week gave approval to a combined proposal by Minister of Mass Media and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to implement a joint communication programme by the two ministries to promote Sri Lanka’s national ambitions and international image.
“It has been recognised the need to implement a strategic communication programme in order to consciously manage a correct foreign policy by strengthening international relations and to raise Sri Lanka’s international image to face global and regional challenges,” the Department of Government Information said.
Interestingly, irregularities were uncovered recently pertaining to a tender to promote Sri Lanka as a tourism destination globally.
As a result, the tourism authorities have called for a fresh tender round and Tourism Minister Harin Fernando last week assured that the global promotional campaign will go ahead as planned despite the tender controversy.
