Tourist arrivals cross 100,000 mark in first 17 days of December

Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka crossed the 100,000 mark this Sunday, provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showed.
For the first 17 days of December, a total of 100,750 international visitors entered the country. This brings the cumulative tourist arrivals for 1 January - 17 December to 1,337, 701.
Accordingly, the daily arrival average has increased to 5,926, whereas the weekly average stands at 40,459.
India continues to retain its position as the largest source market for Sri Lanka tourism, bringing in 21 percent of the total tourist arrivals for the month so far. 

The Russian Federation, ranking second, accounted for 14 percent of the total arrivals, while the United Kingdom, the third largest tourist traffic generator, contributed to 10  percent of the total arrivals.
While the SLTDA aims to lure 242, 135 international visitors in December, the target is to end the year with 1.55 million tourists.
