WB reiterates its backing for Aswesuma benefits to be extended to 2mn families

Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe earlier this week held a meeting with Faris Hadad-Zervos, who serves as Country Director for the World Bank. 
The purpose of the meeting was to review the progress of Sri Lanka’s Aswesuma welfare benefits programme.


During the discussion, Hadad-Zervos reaffirmed the World Bank’s strong commitment to supporting significant reforms aimed at safeguarding the wellbeing of impoverished and vulnerable individuals in Sri Lanka. 
Additionally, the World Bank expressed its dedication to achieving the goal of extending these benefits to two million families.


Semasinghe acknowledged and appreciated the World Bank’s commitment to assisting Sri Lanka in implementing reforms designed to protect the country’s impoverished and vulnerable populations.
Jayantha Wijerathne, who serves as Chairman of the Welfare Benefits Board, also participated in these discussions, highlighting the collaborative efforts being made to enhance the country’s social welfare initiatives.
