Several sewage holes of the waste water disposal project on Aponsu Mawatha, Lakshapathiya in Moratuwa were seen overflowing with the heavy rains today. The people in the area claim that they cannot even walk on the road due to sewage sludge floating all over the road. They requested the responsible authorities to look into the matter immediatey. The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) implemented a project from 2008 to 2016, funded by a Swedish loan and grant through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The project's goal was to improve environmental conditions and reduce pollution in two areas near Colombo by developing a comprehensive wastewater system, including sewerage, pumping, treatment and safe disposal of treated waste. This initiative aimed to enhance residents' living conditions and support industrial development. Pix by Kithsiri de Mel
