State Minister of Defence, Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, ceremonially took over the Training Facility in Mullaitivu from the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) recently. The purpose of this takeover is to establish the National Cadet Corps (NCC) wing in Mullaitivu.

The Training Facility, previously belonging to the Infantry Battalion Training Centre of the 59 Division of SLA, located in Mullaitivu, was handed over to State Minister Tennakoon by Maj. Gen. MK Jayawardena, Commander, SF-HQ Mullaitivu, on behalf of the Army Commander. The ceremony was attended by Commander, 59 Division, Maj. Gen. DKAK Dolage, and NCC Director, Brig. G.S. Fonseka.

The NCC Training Centre at Rantambe is the only institute dedicated to training school children to become future leaders. The NCC plans to utilize this newly acquired facility for the training of NCC officers and cadets, aiming to increase the number of cadets attending battalion, provincial, and national level camps. This facility will also cater to the growing demand for cadetting and leadership training programs, contributing to the development of future leaders.
