Former Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews is likely to return to lead the national limited over side five months after he relinquished his duties.
Mathews who resigned as Sri Lanka skipper after Sri Lanka’s ODI series loss to Zimbabwe, has reportedly given his consent to lead the side.
Mathews is currently nursing a hamstring injury and is expected to undergo a fitness test on Monday to see whether he is fit to travel to Bangladesh for the tri-series.
According to an email communique from Sri Lanka Cricket, the selectors are also considering Dinesh Chandimal for the position. Chandimal is Sri Lanka’s Test skipper but has struggled to find a place in the limited over sides due to poor form in recent months.
However, with Chandika Hathurusingha’s appointment, Chandimal is back in the limited-over squad.
“During the discussion, the Chairman of selectors informed me that they are considering appointing either Angelo Mathews or Dinesh Chandimal to fill the role,” said Thilanga Sumathipala, President of SLC.
