Roshen slams career best double ton

Roshen Silva celebrates his double ton

Middle-order bat Roshen Silva produced an unbeaten career best 231 to propelled Team Galle to a massive 476 all out out on day two in their Super Fours 4-day Provincial match played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. 

At stumps, Team Colombo were 104 for the loss of two wickets, trailed by 372 runs with eight wicket in hand. Dhananjaya de Silva and Lahiru Thirimanne remained unbeaten on 55 and 25 respectively. 
Resuming from his overnight score of 146, the elegant left hander played sensibly showing his immense aptitude to play long innings.

Roshen who came into bat when his team was in deep trouble losing four of their top order batsmen for 22 runs shared 202runs for the fifth wicket with stand-in skipper Dasun Shanka to resurrect the innings. He then added another 97 runs for the sixth wicket with Chathuranga de Silva and a further 61 runs for the eighth wicket with Akila Dhanajaya. His marathon and patience innings came off 392 balls and had 16 boundaries helping his side to score a massive total.

Sachithra scores ton for Team Dambulla

Meanwhile in Katunayake Team Kandy reached 232 for the loss of three wickets in response to Team Dambulla’s first innings total of 480. After Ashen Priyanjan hit 156 on day one, off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake smashed a quick-fire 105 to help them to a formidable total. Senanayake who hit 11 boundaries and four sixes in his 109 ball innings shared two useful partnerships of 91 and 85 for the eight and ninth wickets with Ashan Priyanjan and Jeffery Vandersay.

Team Kandy in their turn  were in a decent positions thanks thanks to half tons by Mahela Udawatte who was unfortunate to miss out on a ton by three runs and Niiroshan Dickwella made a bold reply of 232 for 3. Udawatte was involved in two partnerships, first of 75 runs for the second wicket with Charith Asalanka and the other of 76 runs for the third wicket with Niroshan who was at the crease having added 46 runs for the fourth wicket with Priyamal.
