SLC hire physiotherapist Khoury to help injured cricketers

Paul Khoury--the Lead Physiotherapist at English County-Sussex has been roped in by Sri Lanka Cricket to help country’s national cricketers on reducing injuries.

He has been appointed as Rehabilitation and Training Manager for a two year period. Injuries particularly muscle strains have been rift in Sri Lanka cricket with several of its national cricketers including team’s white-ball skipper Angelo Mathews regularly being in and out of the team due to injuries.

At present Mathews and Shehan Madushanka are nursing from hamstring injuries while Asela Gunaratne has been recovering from an arm-injury he had suffered during the Bangladesh series.

In fact, it was Khoury who has not passed Mathews fit for the Tri-series where he was earlier expected to return to lead the side. Khoury who will be based at the National High-Performance Center at Kettarama will diagnose, address injuries and will provide strategies for a safe progression back to the pitch. Khoury is currently working with Mathews, Shehan Madushanka, and Asela Gunaratne.

Englishman Khoury has a masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine and has worked in elite sport since 2008, holding senior positions with Sussex and England Cricket, Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club, British Bobsleigh and Skeleton, international 7s rugby, and the British Forces.
