Chaminda Vaas has replaced Champaka Ramanayake as fast bowling coach of the national team for the India series. Ramanayake resigned from the post last night. Vaas was Sri Lanka's fast-bowling coach up to the 2015 World Cup.

He was appointed Sri Lanka Cricket's fast-bowling consultant last year, fifteen months after his contract as the national team's bowling coach lapsed. The focus of his new role was to identify and develop fast-bowling talent from around the country, rather than on working specifically with the national team.

Vaas is Sri Lanka's most successful seamer, with 355 Test scalps to his name. The likes of Shaminda Eranga, Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep had appeared to make significant advances during his first term in office.
