COLOMBO, Nov 29 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo South emerged the undisputed champions of Under 15 Youth League limited over tournament when they recorded a crushing 86 run win over Colombo North in the final played at the MCA ground today.
In fact they remained unbeaten right throughout the tournament.
Colombo North chasing a formidable target of 257 runs for victory was making steady progress and was well placed on 64 for 2 in the 12th over before they lost three quick wickets and slid to 96 for 5 in the 22nd over.
Despite Sadeesha Silva who made a fighting knock of 47 and some stiff resistance being put by the late order batsmen it was insufficient as they were able to muster a score of only 170 runs.
Earlier Colombo South skipper Thevindu Wewalwala winning the toss and electing to take first lease of the wicket being bolstered by a 129 run a ball knock by Rehan Peiris which had five boundaries and ten towering sixes.
Peiris associated in two valuable partnerships first of 110 runs for the second wicket with Lasiru Sandakan and the other of 96 runs for the third wicket with Jason Fernando and with the dismissal of Peiris which was the third wicket in the 43rd over saw Colombo South losing five quick wickets but succeeded to end with a formidable score of 256 for 8 wickets.
The Under 15 Youth League tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket is being sponsored by Prima for the 16th successive year.
Lisula Lakshan of Galle and Himaru Deshan of Colombo South were adjudged the best batsman and bowler of the tournament and Rehan Peiris of Colombo the player of the final. (Pix: Nimalsiri Edirisinghe)
