A top knock of 105 by Jordan Johnson and half tons by Joshua Dorne and Tarrique Edward paved the way for the visiting West Indies Under 19s to record a massive 195-run win against host Sri Lanka Under 19 in the second of the three match Youth ODI series played at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium today.

Sri Lanka Under 19 chasing a massive target of 321 runs were bundled out for a low score of 125 runs.

The host side put themselves in a spot of bother and were struggling for survival after losing their skipper Sineth Jayawardena with four runs on the board as from there on they never recovered.

The home side lost wickets at regular intervals as right arm pacies Deshawn James and Isai Thorne who together shared five wickets sent the host side reeling to 34 for 6 with the innings just 14 overs old.

A knock of 51 coming from Malsha Tharupathi was not going to do any good as they were left with the daunting task of making a massive 287 runs for victory with just four wickets remaining.

But the bowling trio Isai Thorne, Deshawn James and Nathan Edward who together shared eight wickets between them combined with effect to bundle them out for just 125 runs for them to level the series at one each.

The morning session of proceedings saw the West Indies Under 19s invited to take first lease of the wicket, though losing an early wicket with the score on seven, making a grand recovery thanks to valuable partnerships in the early and latter stages of the innings.

The first was spearheaded by Jordan Johnson who made a quick fire 79-ball knock of 105 inclusive of 12 boundaries and three sixes as he along with Joshua Dorne who hit 56 with six boundaries shared a stand of 160 runs for the third wicket.

Later, Tarrique Edward who cracked an unbeaten 53 only 36 balls which had two boundaries and three sixes put on 60 runs in just 43 balls for the eighth wicket with Nathan Edward to help West Indies Under 19 end their innings making a formidable score of 320 for 8.

The two teams will play their third and deciding match on September 1 at the same venue. (M. Shamil Amit)
