A combined batting effort by the Pakistan U-19 team, headed by a swashbuckling century by opener Shamyl Hussain, coming off in 109 deliveries, including 13 fours and seven sixes, saw them sail past the Sri Lanka U-19 of 289 with only the loss of four wickets to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match Limited Over series at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi, today.
Sri Lanka, winning the toss, put up a healthy total of 289 for nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Despite a 137-run partnership by Rusanda Gamage (110) and S. Sharujan (61), the rest of the batters failed to make sizeable contributions.
Pakistan medium pacemen Ubaid Shah and Aftab Ahamad were the most successful Pakistan bowlers, with figures of 2/65 and 3/31, respectively. In reply, the young Pakistanis were never troubled by the Lankan youth bowlers and scored runs freely off them. Opener Shamyl Hussain led the way with 150 runs, while the other batters followed him with sizeable contributions. (LR)
