Rain ruined the first day’s proceedings of the second Unofficial Test match between the Sri Lanka Emerging Team and the visiting Bangladesh Emerging Team, which began at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium today.

Bangladesh Emerging Team invited to take first lease of the wicket reached 153 for six, which came on the back of an unbeaten knock of 62 by Akbar Ali, who rescued the side when they were struggling on 54 for five.

Ali, whose knock came off 91 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes, shared a valuable 94-run stand for the fifth wicket with Rakibul Hasan, who chipped in with 36.

Right-arm pacie Chamika Gunasekera ended with impressive figures of six for 27.

Only 47 overs of play were possible as the umpires called off the match when rain put a stoppage for the second time. (M. Shamil Amit)
