Stokes out as England and New Zealand get World Cup underway

Defending champions England and New Zealand got the World Cup underway at the sport's largest cricket arena in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

England went into the game without star batsman Ben Stokes who failed to recover from a hip injury.

The World Cup features 10 teams playjng a total of 48 matches with the final at the 132,000-capacity Ahmedabad Stadium on November 19. (AFP)
