Thisara Perera retires from international cricket

Sri Lanka allrounder Thisara Perera has announced his retirement from international cricket. He has conveyed news of his retirement to Sri Lanka Cricket on Monday morning.

However the 32-year-old Perera has confirmed he will continue to play franchise cricket. He is the captain of the Jaffna Stallions, the winner of the inaugural Lanka Premier League tournament.

His retirement comes after Sri Lanka's team management has decided to drop several senior cricketers including Perera from ODI cricket and T20 internationals. However, he still in the mix for T20 internationals, with a view to him potentially being part of the T20 World Cup side later this year.

He  led Sri Lanka in three ODIs in 2017, as well as nine T20Is between 2017 and 2018.  He was part of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup win in 2014.
