FCPMA distributes roofing sheets to gale force wind victims

The Fibre Cement Products Manufacturers’ Association (FCPMA) distributed Chrysotile Roofing Sheets to victims affected by the gale force winds in Kolonnawa as part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.


The distribution made on April 20th was initiated at the request of the Chief Organiser of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party for Kolonnawa and Hon. Chairman of the Kotikawatte – Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabhawa, Prasanna Solangaarachchi. The distribution of roofing sheets was presided over by Duminda Dissanayake, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Minister of Agriculture. Minister of Disaster Management, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Chief Minister of the Western Province, Isura Devapriya also participated as Guests of Honour.


Chrysotile Roofing Sheets to the value of Rupees 3.6 million were distributed among 286 families affected by the recent gale force winds in the Kolonnawa area. A significant feature of this event was the participation in the distribution of the country’s leading producers of Chrysotile Roofing Sheets, Rhino, Ramco, Elephant Masconite and Sigiri. 


The Fibre Cement Products Manufacturers’ Association which has been formed by Rhino, Ramco, Elephant Masconite and Sigiri which are the leading manufacturers of Chrysotile Roofing Sheets in the country, have taken the lead in the social service of the distribution of Chrysotile Roofing Sheets with the aim of providing shelter to those affected by major disasters in the island.


Cement and water make up ninety two percent in the manufacture of Chrysotile Roofing Sheets. The balance 8% consists of Chrysotile fibre. Chrysotile fibre is a natural mineral found on earth formed by a combination of Magnesium, Silica and Water.
