FITIS reaches out to help flood victims

The Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) distributed school books amongst more than 200 students who lost their possessions in the recent devastating floods which inundated their homes in the Colombo North area. 


The ceremony to hand over the school stationery to these students was held at the Mulleriyawa (North) Kalathuwawatte Purana Viharaya. Agaya Holdings, Zillione Holdings, Cenmetrix and all member institutions of FITIS contributed generously towards this worthy cause. 


Chadika Yahampath, Administration and Operations Manageress of FITIS, and members of the staff, Sudath Amarasinghe, President of the FITIS Hardware Chapter,  Indika Adhikari, Executive Member of the Hardware Chapter, were amongst the large turnout present at the ceremony.


Speaking on the occasion of presenting the books to the affected students, Sudath Amarasinghe, President of the FITIS Hardware Chapter, said: “A sizable number of students lost their school books as a result of raging floods in the Mulleriyawa area. This loss dealt a severe blow to the education of these children.


“As a responsible organization, FITIS, in partnership with its member institutions, has stepped forward to help these students in their hour of need. I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all FITIS member organizations for their financial support to grant relief to these school children”. “I would also like to thank the Chief Incumbent of the Mulleriyawa (North) Kalathuwawatte Purana Viharaya for his guidance to make this project a success. We are optimistic of extending more assistance to these students in the near future”.


The Sri Lanka ICT Industry Association, The Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) constitutes the Sri Lanka Computer Vendors Association (SLCVA) – the Hardware Chapter, Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industry (SLASI) – the Software Chapter, Association of Computer Training Organizations (ACTOS) – the Training Chapter, Lanka Internet Service Providers Association (LISPA)/(TPA) – the Telecommunications Chapter and Information Systems Audit & Control Association (ISACA) – the Professional Chapter. FITIS has been in operation for the past 20 years as the unified umbrella organization of the ICT industry in Sri Lanka. FITIS has been actively engaged in setting the strategic direction and developing the ICT industry in Sri Lanka with many programs which have been successfully implemented. There are 200 organizations representing the respective Chapters which are members of FITIS.
