Holcim Lanka and World Vision award homes to the needy in Mundalama and Kalpitiya

Holcim (Lanka) Ltd, a member of the Lafarge Holcim Group, together with World Vision Lanka, officially awarded 40 homes to the communities of Mundalama and Kalpitiya recenlty.
The project which was graced by members from both entities, combining and strengthening technical, material and financial resources toward the goal of economically and socially building sustainable communities. 
Commenting on the project, CEO, Holcim Lanka – Philippe Richart, “Holcim has the ambition to create shared value with society through distinctive and sustainable solutions and the best possible sustainable footprint. Our partnership with World Vision demonstrates the success of private sector & NGO working together combining the expertise of both.  I am pleased to see the projects Mundalama and Kalpitiya are supporting the needy communities not only by providing shelter but also developing skills among beneficiaries”
Each beneficiary was trained and supervised by Holcim Lanka and WVL technical officers to build with the community provided labor. 
Commenting on the partnership WVL, National Director – Jonathan Johnson, “Working in partnership with Holcim has enabled us to collaborate towards sustainable development among the poorest communities of these areas. We are pleased at the impact of this project, which ultimately benefits the most vulnerable children and their families. Whilst thanking Holcim for their generosity, we look forward to continued collaboration with them.”  
In addition to housing, the partnership also encompassed livelihood training for 25 individuals in Eluwankulama, Wanathawilluwa enabling the beneficiaries to produce handicrafts with locally available materials.  The training was provided through the National Handicrafts Council.
