Multilac, one of the leading paint brands in the country spearheaded a campaign called ‘Lead Poisoning Prevention Week’ recently to create awareness among public on the harmful aspects of lead exposure especially to the children.
Multilac collaborated with the Centre for Environmental Justice to conduct this campaign on lead safety. The announcement was made at a media briefing held at Hotel Mandarina, Colombo 3.
“As we strive to produce high quality paint, maintaining global standards is very important to us. Therefore this initiative enables us to make a positive impact on the health of our customers, their children and our partners. By observing the lead safe week, we hope to keep contributing to the society and promote a more conducive lead safe environment for our future generations,” said Multilac Managing Director Mizver Makeen.
The Sri Lankan standard for lead safety is marked at 600ppm for solvent based paint and 90ppm for water based paint. However Multilac maintains the lead presence below 90 ppm for the entire product range, which is the international standard for lead safety.
Multilac received the global recognition from PEN America. Furthermore Multilac is one of the top three global paint companies to have achieved this recognition.
This global recognition has enabled Multilac to reach new markets globally and fortifying their local presence in future.
“We continue to advocate tirelessly towards making Sri Lanka completely lead safe. Working together with Multilac during the lead safe week we put children at the centre of our activities to ensure their health is protected,” said CEJ Executive Director Hemantha Vithanage.
To mark the lead safe week, Multilac donated lead safe paint to several pre-schools, providing lead safe paint for the neurological ward of Lady Ridgeway Hospital and conducted an awareness campaign in the vicinity of Castle Street Hospital.
