Sri Lanka Telecom held the ‘Sisu Abhiman Awards’ at the Presidential Secretariat in January. The primary goal of the event was to empower learning by use of ultra-high speed broadband connection packages.

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Education, SLT identified the top 21 students who had achieved the highest results in the GCE Advanced Level Examination from schools all across the island.

The top 3 students of each of the 7 Advanced Level streams were selected to be felicitated by President Maithripala Sirisena and received SLT’s ultra-high speed broadband connection package equipped with all necessary devices to facilitate their undergraduate studies and empower their academic life. This service provided to them will be free of charge during the entire period of their undergraduate studies. Students were given the choice of selecting wired or 4G LTE fixed wireless connections.

The main reason behind this event was to encourage students and support them in the completion of their higher education as a responsible corporate citizen of Sri Lanka while at the same time improving Internet access among students all around the island. This endeavour will also help to ensure the use of the internet among students, to aid them in their studies and to help broaden their learning environment.

In his letter to the students, P.G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Chairman of SLT said, “This is a golden window of opportunity that will greatly support you to achieve a successful future. During this time when you are making important life decisions towards achieving your dreams for the future, we, at Sri Lanka Telecom, are always ready to support you in every way possible.”
