Vision Care join hands with OPA to celebrate Avurudu with orphans

In an effort to recognize and socially include underprivileged orphans in the country, Vision Care, the leading provider of eye care and hearing solutions, recently sponsored a fun-filled Avurudu celebration with the participation of 126 children from two orphanages with the permission of the Department of Probation & Child Care Services (WP).


Held on the 24th of April at the premises of the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA), the event began with a tour around the city of Colombo including Galle Face Green and Independence Arcade Square, followed by a lunch at OPA. 


Thereafter they were entertained with many avurudhu games and each child was gifted a school bag filled with books and stationery. Further the auditorium also hosted presentations on general health and fitness. The two orphanages were Wajira Sri Baby Child Development Center, Pitakotte and Neguchi Child Development Center, Pepilyana.


A company spokesperson quoted ‘We are delighted to have partnered with organizations that organize and immensely support noteworthy causes which willreduce the number of orphans in Sri Lanka, and enhance and uplift their standards through community development activities and agendas.’Sri Lanka has tens of thousands of orphans and only a proportionate amount has the privilege of living in an orphanage or home. The country today experiences a culture of giving and donating primarily with the contribution from the private sector. 


’‘We believe that it’s important to go beyond care and also to share and contribute to the local society in turn so that they may be well equipped to serve those in need. We hope to continue and further strengthen such initiatives in the future,’ the quote further added.
