Golden Key Hospitals, Sri Lanka’s leading eye and ENT care hospital, recently enhanced its service offering with the introduction of the latest version of CIRRUS HD-3D OCT 5000 Ver. 8.0. The machine’s Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) gives a detailed 3D image below the surface of the retina thereby assuring a detailed picture of an eye’s health.
This is one of the few devices in the world which reveal in-depth images of the eye’s internal structures. The examination takes only a few seconds while nothing touches one’s eyes as one looks into the machine. It also provides accurate details on macular and optical nerve head investigations.
Golden Key Hospitals Chief Consultant Eye Surgeon Dr. Saliya Pathirana said, “We have always acquired new technology to provide the best clinical care for the 100s of patients who patronise our hospital. This is yet another step in that direction and further enhances our commitment towards better clinical care through advanced technology. Given its novel features, this machine will be of great value to all Ophthalmic surgeons especially anterior segment and glaucoma surgeons in Sri Lanka.”
The machine’s OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross section pictures on the patient’s retina, the light sensitive tissue which lines the back of the eye. With OCT each of the retina’s distinctive layers can be seen. An OCT exam can help in the early detection and monitoring of serious eye diseases.
“This machine can be used for diagnosing and managing retinal diseases, glaucoma including angle closure glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye diseases and corneal diseases. With this new machine, doctors will now be able to get a more accurate and advance reports for their patients,” Dr. Pathirana added.
This revolutionary cutting-edge machine maintains its own data base of each patient examined. It stores the patients’ details for easy reference at their next eye examination thus allowing the doctor to monitor and check for any changes and refer for new treatment.
Conveniently situated within Colombo’s city limits in Rajagiriya, the Golden Key Hospital is a specialty hospital dedicated to excellence in the care of disorders that affect the eye, ear, nose, throat and adjacent regions of the head and neck. GKH provides primary care and serves as a referral centre for outpatient and inpatient medical and surgical care.
Since its launch in August 2007, the hospital created history by becoming the first private sector super specialty hospital in the country and a centre of excellence in all eye and ENT problems not only locally but also in the South Asian region as well.
