Danushka returns home

Cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka, who was stranded in Australia pending trial for the past 11 months, returned to Sri Lanka on Tuesday night after he  was found not guilty on sexual harassment charges by a judge-alone hearing in Sydney.

Gunathilaka, a member of the Sri Lanka T20 team at the ICC World T20 Championship held in Australia in November 2022, was barred from leaving the country after a woman he had met through an online dating app, made charges against the opening batter that he sexually harassed on their first meeting at the woman's apartment in Sydney.

After four hearings, Gunathilaka was found not guilty by the Sydney court, and was freed from all accusations.

Returning to Sri Lanka with a close friend and an unidentified foreign woman, who was seen accompanying Gunathilaka at the trials, he thanked all who stood by him during past 11 months and said that he would resume training with intentions of returning to the national side.
