Harin under fire over comments on Maldives

Maldivians have reacted very strongly to comments made by Tourism Minister Harin Fernando where he claimed tourists visiting Maldives get “fed up” after 5 days.

Fernando had made the comments at the ITB Berlin travel and tourism trade fair.

Maldivian Ministers, MPs and others have raised strong objections to the Minister’s comments.

Fernando later said his comments on the Maldives had been "misrepresented on social media" and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
