Global Commerce Excellence Awards 2012, which is to be held shortly, will honour the international businesses that helped to run the Sri Lankan economy and create jobs against all odds, during the terror period of the LTTE.
The award ceremony is organised by the Central Bank Governor’s Office, Airport Aviation Services Sri Lanka, Board of Investment, Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Shippers’ Academy Colombo.
“The awards will be presented to companies that invested or serviced the economy during the period 1985-2009. Various companies, including foreign chambers representing the following sectors have been nominated by relevant intuitions and associations: Investment, manufacturing, export, aviation, shipping, banks, tourism, telecommunication and logistic services,” a media statement said.
A large number of foreign participants are expected to be in Colombo to receive the awards.
The first Global Commerce Excellence Awards was held in 2011 to recognize Sri Lankan corporates, chambers, government institutions and individuals who contributed to the national economy during the period from 1985 to 2009, when terrorism was trying to destabilize the economy.
The award ceremony will take place on December 13, at the refurbished Ceylon Continental Hotel.
